Theatre

Sandgate Theatre Inc has been bringing theatre to the Sandgate community in its historic town hall, since 1958.

Sandgate Theatre holds four-five productions each year: the Caf One Acts; a Theatre Restaurant; 2 full-length plays and the occasional Christmas show.

Locals are regularly involved as actors, directors, writers and backstage crew for Sandgate Theatre Incorporated.

The Yarrageh Festival - billed as the most exciting, friendliest, and longest running One Act Drama festival in Brisbane - is held annually in August under the auspices of STI and brings a variety of theatre performances to Sandgate in a week long program.

Bunbury Theatre Company

Bunbury Theatre began as a backyard performance of Oscar Wilde’s comedy The Importance of Being Ernest by a devoted group of friends for a bit of a laugh, in 2000.

The show proved popular and was followed with a season of Tom Stoppard’s The Real Inspector Hound, in 2001.

In June 2002 Bunbury Theatre took a bold step ‘out of the garden’ and relocated to the historic Sandgate Baptist Church for its production of Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night, utilising both exterior and interior of the historic site.
